When I was vegetarian, I loved eggs. I was always that person who said “I’d never be vegan because I’d miss eggs too much”. It’s been over eight years since I ate animal-based eggs, and I’ve found ways that I can enjoy plant-based versions of them. But I’m always keen to try out new options too. I like to shop online at Alternative Stores, so when I saw that they had these plant-based egg products, I had to try them out Check Them Out Here
I tried the boiled egg first. The texture when you cut into it is just like a hen egg; it surprised me. It worked beautifully in a vegan egg salad sandwich, with lettuce and egg-free mayonnaise. I sprinkled a pinch of black salt on the egg and it felt just like I was eating a non-vegan egg sandwich. Black salt, otherwise known as Kala Namak, is a salt with a sulphurous “eggy” flavour. It’s often used to add an egg flavour to dishes such as tofu scramble

Then, I sliced another egg in half, and topped a hot bowl of creamy ramen with it. It felt just like eating a hen egg, the texture of both the white and the yolk were perfect for me. They come in a chilled pack of four eggs, costing £5.49

Next I tried the vegan egg salad. It reminded me of an egg salad made with salad cream, as opposed to mayonnaise. This is a flavour I really enjoy, but it may not be to everyone’s tastes. Again, the texture was spot on. The slightly bouncy egg white, creamy yolk and dressing mixture felt eerily similar to the animal product version. This comes in a chilled 240g pot, costing £3.99

Then I tried the poached eggs. I didn’t eat poached eggs very often before I went vegan, mostly because I didn’t master the cooking method. These were really easy to make, they come in a sachet that you just drop into a pan of boiling water. I really enjoyed the texture of the egg, and once I’d added a little smoked paprika, black pepper and black salt, it felt just like eating a poached hen egg. These come in a frozen pack of six, costing £7.99

Finally, the fried eggs. This was my favourite way of eating eggs when I was vegetarian. The texture and flavour of the egg yolk was something I’ve not had since becoming vegan, so it was a real treat. I added black pepper and black salt to mine, so the flavour was just like a fried hen egg. These come in a frozen pack of six, costing £7.99

I really enjoyed these vegan eggs. I felt both the texture and flavour (after adding a pinch of black salt) were incredibly similar to hen eggs. I would definitely have them again, but not on a regular basis due to the cost. But, for an occasional treat now and again, they’re perfect. This isn’t an advertisement, and the products featured are not gifted, I just wanted to share more about this company and their amazing vegan eggs.
